-My LINK Project-
|
My LINK internship consisted of a vast amount of mini projects that I completed over the course of three weeks. Starting the week off by creating a ticket list for the studios annul recital, organizing costumes by style of dance and age group, cleaning the studio, and assistant teaching certain classes. The main focus throughout my three weeks interning at Studio 444 was the upcoming annul recital. Along side this was picture week! This was a week without classes, but all the students put on their costumes and posed for pictures! This was the project that I was most involved in! I helped girls get ready by doing their hair and makeup, as well as managed and maintained the schedule for pictures. One of my favorite parts of this project was helping the dancers find different poses for there pictures. For individual pictures each soloist was required to come prepared with 10-15 different poses. I was able to step in and mentor the younger dancers in finding different poses from their dance that they could use for their pictures! I really enjoyed getting to see this aspect of dance. I haven't got to see many of the younger dancers this year due to covid, and seeing the amount of growth they have had and the young women they are growing into was a very inspiring!

-LINK Reflection-
Going into my LINK internship I was really excited to develop new skills to take with me in the future. My already established relationships with not only the teachers, but the younger dancers as well helped make the experience that much more enjoyable. I believe that I had a huge impact on the studio during my three weeks. Being one of the senior dancers at Studio 444 Performing Arts Academy, I believe by having me as teacher assistant it helped to inspire the younger dancers. Because of my current job as a nursery attendant at my church, as well as my many previous years as a babysitter, I am already very comfortable with childern. I was able to hone in on the specific skills I have learned from these jobs such as communication skills to help the younger dancers learn. One little girl in specific was having trouble learning how to do a "chaîné" turn. Of course my many previous years of training allowed me to explain to her how to actually do the turn, but it was my tone of voice and the way I actually communicated with her that I believe allowed her to understand.Due to COVID-19 I haven't been able to see the younger dancers at my studio that much. The amount of growth that I saw in them this year made me a little emotional if Im honest. I believe that's the beauty of being a dance teacher. Getting to watch the children you have grown to think of as family become successful dancers is one of the biggest accomplishments you can hold. A skill that I was truly able to build durning my time as an intern was my multitasking skill. I had a million jobs durning my three weeks at the studio and finding a way to get them all done through out the day was very challenging. Picture Week at Studio 444 Performing Arts Academy definitely tested this skill. While running around trying to help dancers pin their buns, or finding a missing costume, wrangling all the girls up for a picture, managing the schedule, getting everyone checked in, ensuring COVID protocols were being followed, and finally helping the dancer achieve different poses. This was very challenging, it felt like we had a million things to get done and no time to do it, but at the end of the day we came together as team to achieve some pretty amazing pictures.
